Even though his been making films since 1962, German director Werner Herzog is still making more of them every year. He's already finished shooting Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, his remake of Harvey Keitel's Bad Lieutenant, and is in pre-production on a new psychological thriller called My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done. In addition to Michael Shannon, Willem Dafoe and Chloe Sevigny, actors Michael Pena, Brad Dourif and Bill Cobbs have joined the cast of My Son. Newcomer Eric Bassett is producing and David Lynch is executive producing the project, which started shooting a few weeks ago.

My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done is loosely based on the true story of a San Diego man who experiences a series of mystifying events, including acting out a Sophocles play in his mind, that lead him to brutally murder his own mother with a sword. It's being described as more of a horror film, with Herzog saying, "I always wanted to make a horror film, but not with bloody axes and chain-saws. An anonymous fear should rather creep up at you." This is first time I've heard about this Herzog and Lynch co-production and I'm quite intrigued. Sounds like a great story and it has a great cast, so we'll keep our eyes open for more.

Based on a harrowing true story… The film opens as officers arrive at the scene –a typical middle-class neighborhood in San Diego. The suspect has barricaded himself inside a home and appears to have taken hostages. Two friends he had urgently telephoned earlier that morning arrive, but too late. As they and their neighbors try to come to grips with what has happened, they tell their stories to the detective in charge of the crime scene. In a series of flashbacks, the bizarre story of Brad Macallam begins to emerge. After an ill-fated white-water kayaking trip in a distant land, Brad finds readjustment to suburban life increasingly difficult. As his disaffection grows and his relations with those around him become strained, he glimpses a world more vivid and strangely frightening than others can see. The detectives try to penetrate the mystery of his story, but the questions only multiply. Brad’s unfolding personal and family drama leads to an obsession with the ancient play, finally driving him to murder.

Adesso poi col link al trailer scattera' immediatamente la gara a stracciarsi le vesti e tutto il resto per Michael Shannon ... ( quello di Giorgio P e' solo un piccolo starter.....)

Comunque lo andro' a vedere immediatamente (ma: non sara' tratto da una storia vera come Ils, mi voglio augurare....)

e rivisto il trailer dell'originale (perchè se anche si dice che non è un remake NON MI DEVONO PRENDERE PER IL CULO).
non so neanche perchè l'ho visto dato che è veramente solo morbosità scopofila.
cmq dico solo questo come sunto del tutto:
tanto herzog deve usare il blues per provare a fare un film blues senza riuscirci,
quanto ferrara non mi ricordo usi del blues nel suo film che è blues di per se stesso.
